Review summary

GoPolar is praised for easy, comprehensive tracking of cold plunges and saunas with strong Apple Watch/HealthKit integration and motivating streaks/challenges. However, recurring complaints focus on pricing/value, Garmin-related syncing problems, and overall cross-device syncing reliability.
Pros
  • Easy and comprehensive tracking of cold plunges and saunas with duration, water/air temperatures, location, and heart rate where available; automatic updates to Apple Health.
  • Strong Apple Watch integration that allows starting and logging sessions from the watch and syncing to HealthKit.
  • Motivating features like streaks, challenges, and a friendly community that help users stay engaged.
  • High perceived quality and reliability with a polished UI, often described as superior to competitors.
  • Replaces manual notes by centralizing data and providing recovery insights in one place.
Cons
  • Pricing and value concerns: many users feel the subscription is expensive relative to the features.
  • Garmin integration and syncing issues: inconsistent performance, with some reports of hangs and incomplete data syncing.
  • General syncing reliability across devices: some reviews report missing or delayed syncing of activities across platforms.

2026-04-22 A ***** Pay $2.75 just to see it is now $40/year or $7/month? Freakin scam. Very frustrating. Just make the app what it is you’re looking for.

2025-12-04 Sa***** Good app, but constantly hangs when syncing with Garmin. My Garmin records everything—this app doesn’t. Developer never replies to emails, which is disappointing for a paid app. Could be great, but right now it just doesn’t work as it should.

2025-06-09 DG***** The app is good for cold plunging. Nicely integrated with my Apple Watch. On the sauna centric data the app is remarkably lacking. The Apple Watch cannot withstand the heat (at higher temperature levels) of a sauna. All the sauna data is therefore entered manually. Access to one’s heart rate as example is not possible. Manual entering of the sauna data is not efficient. For example, the temperature wheel only goes from 0 degrees to say 194 degrees in one direction from low to high) so between this and not being able to leverage your past sessions inputting values (say of session time and temp) makes the UI unnecessarily cumbersome. Another app has a small sensor that can be taken into the sauna and it tracks some variables? Also I don’t care for all the community/shared activity functionality wrt my cold plunging - I wish there was a way to mute that. Expensive app for simply being a partially integrated tracker for cold plunging.

2025-05-05 ab***** I have been searching for years for a way to track my sauna and ice baths. This app does everything I wanted and more. I honestly use it daily unless I’m traveling for work.

2025-04-04 Jr***** First, I have been cold plunging and winter swimming for 4+ yrs. During that time, taking pictures of water/air temperatures and writing journals etc. Volumenous pictures and notebooks. Now it's all on my wrist. Definitely a game changer. Also, recently I contacted the creator and they promptly got back to me with an answer to my question quickly. I have highly recommended this app to my friends and other cold water plungers. My only complaint is where was it 4years ago!!! Thank you for the app.

2025-02-26 da***** Only reason I got the app was to use with my garmin watch. It’s not in the IQ or connect. Subscription is also way too high. I’d be willing to pay for app at 1$ a month max (if it worked as advertised) I have already cancelled my free trial and will be unlikely to ever try again unless there are major changes/updates.
