User reviews
Tamper Dev is praised for its user-friendly design and effective POST request editing capabilities, making it accessible for users less familiar with complex tools. However, multiple reviews highlight issues with intercepting JavaScript-generated requests, encoding problems with non-ASCII languages, and lack of persistent filters or rules. Additionally, the extension can be disruptive by closing intercept windows upon page refresh and lacks some advanced features like request blocking. Despite these drawbacks, it remains a useful and intuitive tool for many users.
Pros
- Easy to use and intuitive interface, suitable for users who find complex tools like Burp Suite difficult.
- Effective in modifying POST request bodies, fulfilling a key functionality.
- Works as expected and reliable for intercepting and editing HTTP requests.
- Helpful tool for web development and debugging tasks.
- Good design and user-friendly UI, making it accessible to a wide range of users.
Cons
- Does not reliably intercept all requests, especially those generated by JavaScript (XHR requests).
- Issues with encoding, particularly with non-ASCII characters (Chinese, Hebrew, Cyrillic), leading to messy or incorrect display.
- No option to save filters or intercept rules for future use, causing repetitive setup after page reload.
- The extension closes or resets the intercept window on page refresh, disrupting workflow.
- Missing some features from older versions or similar tools, such as the ability to deny (block) specific HTTP requests after interception.

The Chinese encoding is very messy, it seems to use ISO 8859

Does not show requests generated by Javascript. So, it is more or less useless on modern web sites.
