shoshin — Zen & Zazen Timer

The opposite of a content firehose. One stick of incense, and you sit. No streaks, no numbers, no guilt. Zazen, kinhin, samu — the real thing, made with care.

shoshin is a Zen meditation app built around one thing: the act of sitting.

There is no library of talks to get through, no streak to protect, no cheerful voice. During a sitting the screen shows no numbers — a hand-drawn stick of incense burns down, and the sky tells the season.

• Incense timer (zazen). Half a stick (20 min), one stick (45 min), or a free length. Start on three bells, end on one.
• Kinhin — walking meditation. Sit, walk, sit. The wooden taku ends the walk; after a twenty-second pause, the bell calls the next sitting. Built to be carried in a pocket, felt through haptics.
• Samu — work as practice. Wash, sweep, slice. An open-ended timer with a gentle, irregular mindfulness bell. Screen off.
• Susokukan — counting the breath. A breathing circle at 4 in, 6 out, with a soft haptic. The app does not count — you do.
• Sesshin. Half- and full-day programs; the bell announces each sitting.
• The enso ledger. Close each sitting by drawing one circle with a finger. Your month is a page of circles. Days you did not sit stay blank — nothing is said.
• A living world. Sky, hills and optional ambience shift across the 24 Japanese solar terms and the time of day.

The bell rings even in silent mode (you can turn this off). Your sitting never leaves your device — no account, no server.
