Zen Timer is a minimal sitting timer for people who already know how they want to sit.

One bell begins the session. One bell ends it. There are no guided courses, no login, no social feed, and no monthly subscription.

Choose 1 to 120 minutes on a simple wheel, or switch to the open-ended infinity mode. A quiet preparation countdown can run before the first bell. While you sit, the screen dims and keeps the interface calm. Background audio and local notifications work together so interval and ending bells can still reach you when the phone is locked.

Four synthesized tones are included: rin, deep bell, mokugyo, and temple bell. The app does not include third-party audio recordings. Interval bells can ring at fixed spacing, such as every 5 minutes, or at exact moments you choose.

Sessions are logged locally with duration and date. Totals, weekly time, current streak, longest streak, and a small monthly calendar help you review your practice. The timer, all four tones, custom interval points, and the entire history are available without any purchase. Nothing here is locked behind a paywall.

This app is only a timing tool for zazen and meditation. It does not provide medical, therapeutic, or counseling advice.

Sitting records and settings stay on your device, and no account is required. The app does not send those records or settings to a developer server.

A small banner ad sits at the bottom of the timer screen. No ad is ever shown while you are sitting, and there are no full-screen ads. The app uses Google Mobile Ads to request ads and User Messaging Platform (UMP) to manage consent. Depending on consent and the system tracking permission, the advertising SDK may process device identifiers and related technical advertising data. A one-time purchase removes the banner for good.
