Features & Capabilities

Heart racing when you stand? Dizzy after a shower? Deflare guides you through flares and builds standing tolerance over 8 months. Built for POTS.

Deflare is the breathing intervention tool built specifically for POTS and dysautonomia. Not a tracker. Not a diary. The app you reach for when your heart is racing, you're dizzy, or you need to prep for standing up.

FEEL BETTER IN 30 SECONDS The Physiological Sigh — a clinically proven double-inhale technique — can interrupt a tachycardia episode in under a minute. No other POTS app offers this.

WATCH YOUR HEART RATE DROP IN REAL TIME Connect Apple Health to see live heart rate biofeedback during breathing sessions. Watch your HR come down as you breathe. Share your results on social media with a branded card showing your before and after.

7 EVIDENCE-BASED BREATHING PROTOCOLS

  • Physiological Sigh (30 sec, free) — acute relief
  • Emergency Stabilize (3 min, free) — crisis breathing
  • Stabilize (5 min, free) — daily anchor
  • Calm (5 min) — racing mind
  • Deep Calm (10 min) — sustained downregulation
  • Recover (10 min) — deeper reset
  • Evening Rest (8 min) — sleep prep

FLARE STABILIZATION FLOW Step-by-step guidance when you're crashing: lie down, breathe, hydrate, add salt, cool down, recovery timeline. Built for the moment you need it most.

MORNING PREP ROUTINE A 2-minute guided pre-standing sequence: muscle activation, breathing, and a controlled transition to upright. No other app offers this.

CHOP-ALIGNED BUILD PROGRAM Progressive breathing capacity training across 3 levels, aligned with the CHOP Modified Dallas Protocol — the most evidence-based exercise program for POTS.

12 GUIDED AUDIO SESSIONS Text-to-speech guided sessions for flare recovery, circulation support, standing prep, bedtime downshift, progressive relaxation, and more.

SMART RECOMMENDATIONS Check in with how you're feeling — calm, wired, tired, dizzy, anxious, overstimulated, or crashing — and get matched to the right protocol. High-distress states always get free protocols first. You'll never hit a paywall during a crisis.

HYPERVENTILATION SAFETY The only POTS app that asks about hyperventilation subtype and shows safety reminders during sessions. Because 50% of POTS patients get worse with deep breathing.

EDUCATION LIBRARY 14 articles covering POTS management, the science of slow breathing, HRV, the push-crash cycle, CHOP protocol, hydration, and sleep.

User Reviews

This app has a beautiful and user-friendly design that I really appreciate, but it falls short in functionality. For instance, there's no way to customize the tracking of salt intake or water consumption; you're limited to increments of one or two grams for salt and specific amounts like 8, 16, or 20 ounces for water. This can be quite inadequate, as people's hydration needs and dietary preferences vary widely. Additionally, the CHOP program, which includes the weight-building portion, lacks accessibility and doesn't align with the original CHOP protocol's intent. Instead of focusing on bodyweight exercises, it requires access to a full gym setup, which may not be feasible for everyone. Moreover, the app has limitations when it comes to tracking health metrics. There's no option to tag when your heart rate is elevated, and if you report feeling unwell—like dizzy—there's no way to update that feeling until a full 24 hours have passed. The evening wind-down feature also has its drawbacks; if you miss an alert on your phone, there's no way to revisit it later. Overall, while the app has potential, it needs significant improvements to enhance its usability and effectiveness.
