Features & Capabilities

Divvy Bikes is the official Chrome extension for Chicago’s bike share system. It provides access to thousands of bikes across docking stations, allowing you to unlock from any station, ride to your destination, and dock at any other station in the system. Bikeshare promotes greener, healthier travel for commuting, errands, or exploring.

The app also shows upcoming transit departures (CTA L lines, buses, Metra, PACE, and more) and lets you pay for Divvy passes directly in-app, including Single Ride, Access, and Membership. Whether you’re planning a one-way trip or a quick ride between stations, Divvy Bikes makes getting around Chicago easier.

User Reviews

User reviews of Divvy Bikes consistently highlight pricing and billing problems, from parking-fee surcharges to day-pass misrepresentations and unexpected holds on cards. Reliability issues dominate, with many reports of failed unlocks, docking glitches, offline stations, and inaccurate bike locations. Availability concerns also recur, making it hard to find bikes or docks when needed. Customer service is frequently criticized for slow or unhelpful responses and refunds. On the plus side, some riders appreciate ebikes as a pleasant, flexible city option and note the app can work well for long-term subscribers.
Pros
  • Ebikes are a highlighted option for many riders and provide enjoyable city travel.
  • The physical Divvy key and hardware work reliably for some users, offering easy access.
  • For some long‑term subscribers, the app experience can feel generally workable and seamless.
Cons
  • High and opaque charges including parking fines, rising prices, and misrepresented day passes, plus card holds and unexpected fees.
  • Frequent app and device issues: trouble unlocking bikes, docking problems, QR scanning failures, and offline stations.
  • Availability and reliability problems: insufficient bikes/docks, stations going offline, and location/docking inaccuracies impacting trips.
  • Customer service and refunds complaints: slow, unhelpful support with inconsistent explanations and delayed or denied refunds.
  • Perceived scams/ethics concerns: repeated calls that the service is scammy or unethical, with nonrefundable charges and disputed fees.
Recent reviews
The worst quality bikes, the worst quality docking stations, the most frustrating app to use. I genuinely hate every divvy experience I have had.

When is Divvy rollling out annual membership cards in mobile wallets to Check out bikes?
by @h*****, 2026-05-25

The app works as it should and you can find bikes and unlock them easily assuming you have payment set up on your phone. Be wary of the day pass though as that only gives you the classic bikes free for the first 3 hours. The day pass is around $23 however. The e-bikes are like 44¢ a minute. We bought a day pass and rode the e-bikes for maybe 60-75 minutes and a classic for about 15 minutes and we paid about $61 total for that day including the pass. It’s just too expensive to enjoy. The bikes of both varieties functioned well but the e-bikes are a rough ride.
