User Reviews

Users praise the app for solid 5/3/1 support, progression tracking, and a helpful plate-loading calculator, plus timers, easy customization, and good developer support. The Apple Watch extension adds hands-free data entry. Common drawbacks across reviews include data save/reset problems, weight miscalculations across cycles, unreliable watch integration, clunky template editing, and occasional crashes or stability issues. When working well, it’s a powerful, motivating tool for 5/3/1 training, but reliability and editing ease are notable drawbacks to consider.
Pros
  • Strong 531 program support with guided progression (BBB, FSL) and steady strength gains.
  • Plate loading feature that uses your real weights to tell you what to load, reducing gym math.
  • Timers and organized interface with automatic 1RM adjustments help keep training progression on track.
  • Apple Watch integration/extension allows data to feed from watch for hands-free tracking.
  • Responsive developer support and ongoing maintenance.
Cons
  • Data saving and syncing problems: workouts can reset or fail to save after cycles.
  • Weight calculations and cycle loads can be incorrect, leading to mismatched weights.
  • Apple Watch integration can be unreliable: the watch doesn’t always recognize a lift or syncs poorly.
  • Template editing and customization can feel clunky or require a learning curve.
  • Stability issues: app can crash or randomly close during workouts.

05/20/26 Still a 5! 9.24.24 I have no idea when I wrote the last review but this still remains the best 5/3/1 app out there! Developer responded to my review with a little insider info, “Long press on the weight amount and a box will pop where you can enter weight in digits!” Old review: Would have been 5 stars but the only way to change the weight in a lift is by using the +\- at .5 increments! Might be away to adjust the rate of change in the settings but haven’t found it. The authors get major props for the options and functionality they built into this thing!

This app is great for basic 531 lifting (BBB, FSL, and so on). It missed a lot of what’s in Beyond, but you can probably brute force it in if you wanted to. There is also a great Apple Watch integration to feed your lifting information to your hand so you aren’t having to constantly keep checking your phone. Great for lifting so I can try to come out a bit, it’s as close as you can get to pen & paper but with the convenience of an app. A couple minor (again - very minor) complaints: One is that the watch app frequently seems to forget you are lifting and loses your workout progress. It almost seems to never recognize if it’s in a session and run in the background. I am unsure what causes it but it happens quite frequently. Not the worst issue to go back into the app to send info back to your watch though, but it would be nice if the active workout didn’t lose progress so frequently if the watch goes to sleep for a brief moment. Two is that editing your template can be a bit of a pain with an unnecessary learning curve. Once you know where you can edit from (Settings > Templates) it isn’t too bad, but it seems unnecessarily complicated for simply adjusting accessory lifts It is still a 5/5 app though.

I like this app because it is simple, helps you improve steadily, and it’s free.
