Do Not Track

Adds the Do Not Track header (DNT: 1) to all requests.

The Do Not Track Chrome extension empowers users to protect their online privacy by automatically adding the DNT: 1 header to all web requests. User reviews

Users appreciate that 'Do Not Track' effectively sets the DNT header to enhance privacy and is simple and reliable to use, syncing well across devices. However, multiple users report significant drawbacks including slow or hanging page loads related to the extension, compatibility issues on some platforms, and even potential browser hijacking behavior causing redirects and UI disturbances. While the extension meets privacy needs for many, emerging native DNT support in Chrome may reduce its future relevance, and caution is advised due to reported intrusive issues.
Pros
  • Effectively sets the Do Not Track (DNT) header in browser requests, helping to protect user privacy.
  • Simple, easy to install, and reliable to use across multiple Chrome installations.
  • Recommended by users who appreciate its functionality in avoiding tracking by websites.
  • Synchronizes settings across multiple Chrome installations without issues.
  • Serves as a useful workaround for Chrome's lack of built-in DNT support prior to native implementation.
Cons
  • Causes pages to hang or load very slowly due to 'waiting for Do Not Track' which can require restarting Chrome to fix.
  • Some users report the extension does not work or is incompatible with certain Chromium versions or Linux.
  • One serious concern is the possibility of browser hijacking behavior leading to unwanted redirects (e.g., to Bing) and UI changes when installed.
  • Reported issues with account/email handling within the extension were confusing and problem-causing for at least one user.
  • Extension's usefulness may be reduced as Chrome develops native DNT support making the extension less necessary.

Pretty sure this has a browser hijacker in it. After I downloaded it I started getting a white box in my google searches(I use dark mode and might not have noticed it if I didn't) that when I clicked on would take me to Bing results. I would also occasionally have my search results come up in Bing instead of Google. After I uninstalled it the box and redirects went away. I had to reinstall it for this review, which I think is kind of dumb.
