GOV.UK ID Check

GOV.UK ID Check is a Chrome extension that securely verifies your identity for select government services by matching your face to your photo ID. It supports authentication for HMRC services via Government Gateway and GOV.UK One Login changes. It accepts UK photocard driving licence, UK passport, non-UK passport with biometric chip, UK BRP, UK BRC, and UK Frontier Worker permit; expired BRP/BRC/FWP are allowed up to 18 months after expiry. You will also need a well-lit area and an Android device running Android 10 or higher.

How it works: for a driving licence you take a photo of the licence and scan your face; for a passport, BRP, BRC or FWP you photograph the ID, scan the biometric chip, then scan your face. The app only helps confirm your identity; you return to the government service to view results. Privacy: your personal information will not be stored in the app or on the phone when you finish; data is collected securely and deleted when no longer needed.
