Self-Destructing Cookies (WebEx) Firefox

Self-Destructing Cookies (WebEx)

By: Joue Add-on
Delete cookies when browser is closed or once the tab is closed to prevent possible trackings (similar to Ove's Self-Destructing Cookies which is not compatible with FF57 anymore)

Features & Capabilities

Self-Destructing Cookies (WebEx) brings back effective cookie management to Firefox versions beyond 57, reviving the popular extension originally created by Ove. It offers two modes for cookie deletion:

  • Session Mode: Deletes cookies when all browser windows are closed.
  • Tabs Mode: Deletes cookies associated with a website once all tabs from that domain are closed, enhancing privacy per-tab.

For example, if logged into Gmail, session mode keeps you logged in until the browser is fully closed, while tabs mode logs you out as soon as all Gmail tabs are closed. Though it currently doesn't clear localStorage, future updates aim to add this feature. Perfect for users looking to prevent tracking and improve browser privacy seamlessly.

User Reviews

Users appreciate that Self-Destructing Cookies effectively deletes cookies upon tab closure and offers simple operation with whitelist support. However, many report that it fails to clear cookies on browser shutdown and has limited management options. Despite some technical issues and inconsistent cookie removal after restarting Firefox, it remains a favored lightweight cookie-cleaning solution for enhanced privacy during browsing sessions.
Pros
  • Effectively deletes cookies when closing tabs, providing enhanced privacy.
  • Simple to use without complicated settings or configuration.
  • Allows adding exceptions or whitelisting sites for cookie retention.
  • Helps keep the browser cleaner by removing unwanted cookies.
  • Fulfills the basic need for automatic cookie deletion on tab close, making it useful for users seeking this functionality.
Cons
  • Does not reliably delete cookies when the entire browser is closed, despite claiming to do so.
  • Lacks sufficient options for cookie management, such as multiple whitelist categories or granular control.
  • Some users report that cookies remain after restarting the browser even when the extension is enabled.
  • Whitelisting functionality sometimes is not working as expected.
  • Occasional bugs or compatibility issues with specific Firefox versions or operating systems.
Recent reviews
Unfortunately it doesn't work at all. I can see all cookies in the cookie manager after a browser restart.
