Quantum Safety Firefox

Quantum Safety

Indicates to users whether the web page loaded in the current tab was accessed via a standardized quantum-safe algorithm such as ML-KEM.

Features & Capabilities

To protect yourself today from "store now decrypt later" attacks enabled by future quantum computers, you should use secure web sessions with quantum-safe algorithms. This add-on changes its icon to show a green tick if the main web page is safe, or a red stop sign if older, non quantum-safe algorithms are used. It does not currently assess whether other parts of the web page are accessed in a quantum-safe way.

The quantum-safe algorithms detected are common variants of the NIST standard ML-KEM (Module Lattice Key Encapsulation Mechanism), including hybrid variants. If a tick is shown, you can see which variant was detected by hovering the cursor over the icon.

This add-on works best when it is pinned to the toolbar so you can more readily see the icon changing.

Note that the permissions are required for the add-on to function. It needs to see all web sites so that it can show the right icon for them, it needs to access browser tabs to update the icon when the user changes between tabs, and it needs notifications to alert the user about missing permissions. No information about the web sites is retained beyond that, and it is deleted when the browser session ends.

Is Quantum Safety Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Quantum Safety requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.

Risk likelihood
Risk likelihood measures the probability that a Firefox add-on may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Add-ons Store, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

Quantum Safety is probably trust-worthy. Prefer other publishers if available. Exercise caution when installing this add-on.
