User Reviews

User reviews praise Symphony for ease of use, portability, and strong export options (MusicXML, MP3) plus classroom usefulness. Its on-the-go notation, ability to print scores, and MuseScore compatibility are commonly cited positives. Recurring downsides focus on stability: frequent crashes and occasional launch failures. Some reviewers also note editing/UI quirks and difficulty with tempo/instrument edits. A few miss MIDI OUT or note that free-version features are limited. Overall, the app is valued for quick ideas and practice, but reliability concerns are repeatedly mentioned.
Pros
  • Easy to use with an intuitive interface and efficient input (one-touch note/rest values).
  • Great for sketching on the go and travel, allowing quick notation anywhere.
  • Strong export and print capabilities, including MusicXML export, printable scores, and MP3s for practice.
  • Helpful for learning, practicing, and classroom use, with features that support preparing pieces and practice materials.
  • Good workflow with MusicXML compatibility and support for external tools (e.g., MuseScore) and input hardware like the Apple Pencil.
Cons
  • Crashes and instability (frequent crashes, bars missing after restarts, app sometimes won’t open).
  • UI and editing limitations (difficult to place notation, editing is awkward, tempo/instrument changes are hard).
  • Missing MIDI OUT functionality on the iPhone app.
  • Free version limitations (limited features in the free version; upgrade needed for full functionality).

This is hands down the dumbest app I’ve ever purchased. I may never buy another app knowing this kind of garbage is for sale in the App Store.
