Overview

Features & Capabilities

Score Creator is a mobile-first music composition app designed for writing and editing sheet music on the go. The interface is optimized for mobile so composing is as fast as texting: tap notes and chords on a built-in keyboard, with no endless tapping or dragging.

Beyond composition, it's a learning tool for teachers and students: input scores, playback by instrument, lyrics, and chord symbols; supports multiple tracks with instruments, transposing, notation features (clefs, time/key signatures, dynamics, slurs, ties, etc.); import/export MIDI and MusicXML, export PDFs and audio, iCloud storage, and more.

User Reviews

Users largely praise Score Creator as easy to use with a broad instrument library and strong mobile transcription capabilities. They note its versatility for backing piano, choir practice, and on-the-go composing. However, recurring issues include stability problems (crashes and freezes), a two-instrument cap in the free version with unclear upgrade pricing, subpar and inconsistent sound samples, occasional data loss or corruption after updates, and missing advanced features. These drawbacks overshadow the positives for many users, suggesting fixes to stability, pricing clarity, and audio quality would help.
Pros
  • Easy to use and intuitive for composing.
  • Wide range of instruments and flexible notation options.
  • Mobile-friendly, handy for composing and transcribing on the go.
  • Free version offers substantial functionality and is useful.
  • Versatile for multiple tasks such as backing piano, choir practice, and auditions.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and instability (startup and during use).
  • Two-instrument cap in the free version with unclear upgrade pricing/upgrade path.
  • Subpar and inconsistent sound quality and instrument samples.
  • Data loss or corruption: songs deleting themselves or changing due to updates.
  • Missing or limited advanced features (percussion options, tuplet range, and other controls) and unclear feature/gating.

Before, I was allowed to have more than 2 instruments, now I have to pay of more than 2. Fix it back to before, other people have made reviews like this, and you haven't fixed it. There are chances people (like me) leave your app for different apps. Have you wondered why your app is 3.5 or something like that stars? It's because of your terrible and stupid updates! Listen to the people, and fix your app. I now have a reason to delete your app.

I used to love this app for YEARS for composing and transcribing due to its simplicity and easy to use interface. Do not get me wrong, this app still retains those qualities and advances even more with its updates. However, I am thoroughly disappointed in how the app has changed over the years in terms of pushing the “Upgraded Version”. For years it has fluctuated between limiting to only 20 songs, only allowing playback for 50 measures at a time, and weird technical things like not being able to change a key and time signatures at the same time. Their recent updates really sealed the deal for me though, as you can only use 2 instruments per song, which is very sad for long time users like me and restricts new users from seeing the true potential of the app. I would absolutely love to be able to jump back into this app and make music that I love, but I sadly am not able to do that anymore. It’s very disappointing.
