Features & Capabilities

iWriteMusic SE is built for professional musicians, teachers, and students who want to write sheet music on small screens. It combines an ultra-intuitive interface with a powerful notation toolkit, making it easy to create scores, parts, lead sheets, and practice materials on phones and tablets.

Two input systems (OneFlick Entry and Traditional) speed up entry; it supports multi-track and multi-voice notation, chords, lyrics, playback, and easy sharing via PDF, JPG, or MIDI. The app is compact (about 15 MB) and free to use, with the Special Edition limitations noted: watermark on page views and prints, save limits (up to 5 songs), playback limits (up to 30 seconds), and restricted import/export capabilities.

User Reviews

iWriteMusic SE is praised for being easy to use, feature-rich, and offering real-time playback plus solid export/sharing options. It also provides good value with a one-time two-device license. However, multiple reviews report stability problems (crashes/freezes), and a lack of auto-save increases the risk of losing work. Editing/input can be clunky, and some instrument/template options are missing. Despite reliability issues, many users find it useful for learning and drafting scores on iPhone and iPad.
Pros
  • Easy to use with helpful tutorials and a straightforward interface.
  • Rich notation features and a large instrument library (piano, choir, many instruments) suited for learning and drafting.
  • Real-time playback helps users hear rhythms and pitches as they compose.
  • PDF/SMF export options and cloud/sync across iPhone and iPad for sharing and printing.
  • One-time purchase value: affordable two-device license rather than ongoing subscription.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes, freezes, and unexpected quits that disrupt work and can cause data loss.
  • No automatic save; users risk losing unsaved work and must save manually regularly.

Well, this program is doing wonders for me, after leaving Sibelius and redoing my music wardrobe. Obviously the programs are different by far. The only thing is the easiness of composing. Not enough alternate keyboard selections, and some of the editing needs to be strong like choosing the right note and with editing. I have to keep erasing notes and putting the right ones in after struggling for the computer to select the right ones. But it is still a great program that i use, i mean i can edit, i can save i can print and i can share. I do however need to take advantage of the program and purchase the true one!!! Thanks !

As stated in title. Can’t even start my first song, because the first thing in the first measure is a quarter note rest. The app crashes out immediately.
