iWriteMusic offers strong mobile notation capabilities with a broad feature set and ease of note-taking after a learning curve, but its major drawbacks are stability, playback reliability, sharing limitations, and missing notation features; UI can feel cramped on small screens.

Pros

Broad, feature-rich notation tools that work on iPhone.
After a learning curve, writing notes is easy and intuitive.
Fun and engaging for drafting ideas and hearing music come to life.
Playback/transpose features aid experimentation.

Cons

Frequent crashes and stability problems, especially with longer songs.
Playback dynamics and articulation are unreliable; instrument levels vary.
Export/sharing is inconsistent; emailing and cross-song copying are problematic.
Notation/instrument gaps (glissando, pizzicato) and some sounds are subpar.
UI/input on small screens can be cramped and some controls are hard to use.

Recent reviews

I have had several music notations apps on my iPhone that I have not been satisfied with. Thus those apps have been deleted. Based upon the workflow of the other apps, iWriteMusic wasn’t very intuitive. However, following a bit of exploration/experimentation I found the app to be the one for notation on iPhone that I like the best to date. The only negatives for me thus far is that the tracks don’t seem to respond well to dynamic markings. I would like to have more volume control between tracks. Also, one additional feature that I would like to see is the ability to export in xml format.

App disappears (shuts down), the app does not fill the full screen making it hard to keep up with where you are. Hard to see- too small. I have it completely open. Just up graded.
