Features & Capabilities

Alaska Weed ID brings the power of EDDMapS to your phone. Now you can use an interactive key to identify invasive plants and submit those observations directly with your iPhone from the field. By reporting sightings of invasive plants, we can better assess the extent of the infestations and hopefully eradicate new infestations before they become huge problems. The goal of Alaska Weed ID is to make identification and reporting of invasive plants as easy and efficient as possible. Features: -Interactive key that allows users to identify plant species by selecting plant features. A picture is always displayed showing the difference between various features, such as leaf shape and leaf arrangement. -Images and information on over 60 high priority invasive plants. -Easy species reporting that captures your current location and allows you to submit images of your observation. AK Invaders allows for both online and offline reporting with reports saved on your phone for uploading when you have network connectivity. -Real-time point distribution maps centered on your current location.

Alaska Weed ID was developed by the University of Georgia Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health through a cooperative agreement with the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Natural Resources and Extension, in cooperation with the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

User Reviews

This app requires me to use another app to report anything (like an invasive plant that my local community wants awareness about). It pushes me to EDDMapS…I’ve never used that app before but EDDSMapS says I need to clear the “queue” before selecting my state. There’s no way to clear the queue…there is no queue. It’s a vicious circle that leads nowhere…can you help? Thanks!

Lots of species listed but 90% have no photos and no info listed on the details screen. When will this app be complete? It’s useless as anything other than a list of items. 👎🏻

But selecting Cogongrass crashes the app every time.
