Features & Capabilities

Sheet Music Scanner lets you scan printed sheet music or upload PDFs, then instantly listen as notes are played in your chosen instrument and tempo. Tap any measure to hear that section with highlights synchronized to playback, and switch instruments, speeds, and voices for flexible practice.

Export options include MIDI, MusicXML, audio formats, and PDF, with cloud sync across iPhone, iPad, and Mac via iCloud Drive. It supports multiple pages and voices, a broad instrument library, and adjustable tempo (50-330 BPM). Limitations: reads standard notation only, not handwriting, and some symbols are not supported yet.

User Reviews

Sheet Music Scanner is praised for aiding practice with playback and file upload, but reviews repeatedly flag the subscription model, unreliable scanning, laggy performance, and missing features such as page reordering and repeatable measures, especially for complex scores.
Pros
  • Great for practicing and learning, especially for choirs and singers; you can snap photos and get playback guidance.
  • Playback of problem parts and easy sharing of playback files.
  • Metronome and count-in features built-in.
  • Easy to upload and organize practice files across pieces.
Cons
  • Forced subscription and opaque pricing; many users feel upsold.
  • Inconsistent scan results: misses notes, misreads scores, or can't read certain pieces.
  • Laggy and unresponsive performance; slow image capture.
  • Missing or limited features like page reordering and repeatable measures, plus limited support for complex scores.

All in all a decent app. But sync issues between devices really is problematic. Has been for a while - just look around on forums and such. To think there is a premium version pushed before basic functionality reasonably works is disheartening - but par for the course with apps now.

I use this app to learn choir music and while it’s pretty good, it makes mistakes on notes and rhythms fairly often. For example, I am working on a piece right now and it keeps reading obvious Eb’s as E naturals, which is huge problem. Because of this my practicing is way less efficient and I’m having to stop and play stuff by hand. I feel like I can’t fully trust it. It would be great to have a feature that allowed me to manually correct mistakes.

Love this app…needs a few tweaks but, overall, it’s great for my needs…and pretty user friendly.
