Features & Capabilities

Scan a barcode or a whole receipt. Yuca scores the product out of 100 and shows exactly what counts for and against it: sugar, fat, salt, additives.

Scan a barcode and Yuca gives the product a score out of 100 — higher is better — and shows exactly what earned it: what counts against it, what counts for it, and a better product from the same shelf. From a barcode, a photo of the label, or a whole till receipt.

A SCORE YOU CAN TAKE APART

Three parts, each one shown under the number:

◆ Nutrition, 60% — from the Nutri-Score: sugar, saturated fat, salt, fibre, protein ◆ Additives, 30% — an additive EFSA found people can take in above the acceptable daily intake costs points; one banned by a regulator caps the whole score at 49 ◆ Organic, 10% — a certified organic label

Every line under the score is one of its inputs. With no nutrition table on record there is no score, and Yuca says so instead of guessing.

HOW PROCESSED IT IS — SEPARATELY

Yuca also reads the ingredient list for how processed the product is: its NOVA group, from 1 (whole food) to 4 (ultra-processed), with the exact ingredients that put it there. It has its own section and does not change the score, so a well-scored product that is still ultra-processed shows up as exactly that.

WHAT YOU GET

◆ A score out of 100, higher is better, with its three parts shown ◆ To watch and Good points: sugar, saturated fat, salt, fibre, protein — with the amount per 100 g ◆ Additives checked against EFSA's intake findings and regulatory bans, with the authority, the year and a link to the source ◆ NOVA group 1 to 4, and every processing marker named, located in the list and explained ◆ Less-processed alternatives from the same aisle ◆ Receipt scanner: photograph a till receipt and see, line by line, how much of the shop was ultra-processed ◆ Clean shelves by supermarket: group 1 to 3 products from the chains you actually shop at, filtered by diet and allergens ◆ Food label scanner: photograph the ingredient list when the barcode is not in the database ◆ Read a restaurant menu: see which dishes name something usually ultra-processed ◆ Pet food and cosmetics: ingredient checks against named sources and EU cosmetics law ◆ A 10-second daily check-in that looks for patterns between what you ate and how you felt ◆ Ask questions about any product you scan ◆ History and saved products

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

It reads what is on record and what the label says. It cannot see what is not declared, it cannot measure a specific packet, and it is not medical advice. Where the data is thin, it says so instead of guessing.

Product data comes from Open Food Facts, an open database maintained by volunteers. The whole method is written out inside the app, with its sources.
