Most of what's on the shelf is ultra-processed. That isn't a personal failing, and Un-Process Me isn't here to tell you off about it. It's here to show you what you're actually holding, explain why it scored the way it did, and leave the decision with you.
Scan it, get a straight answer
Point the camera at a barcode, or search by name. You get a verdict based on NOVA, the four-tier system researchers use to classify how processed a food is, along with the reasons behind it: the additives, the marker ingredients, the category it sits in. We show you the label the way it should have been printed. When a product is minimally processed, the card turns green and says so.
Swap it, or make it yourself
When something scores badly, we show less-processed picks from the same shelf, ranked by how much lower they score, and you can narrow them to the shop you're standing in. For the things worth making at home, we provide our own home-grown recipes.
A tracker that can't tell you off
Home isn't a dashboard. It's a plot of ground. Grow with your garden, and explore its hand-painted art. The more less-processed choices you log, the faster it flourishes — and a more processed week never sets you back.
We don't judge you for the foods you consume, and we don't want to track every micro-nutrient. Our goal is slow growth, like the garden you'll nurture over time. If you've had something, log it. We don't care how much, or how often. It's about building a better relationship between you and the food you eat.
Learn what the label is doing
Every verdict explains itself, so the emulsifiers, sweeteners and flavourings stop being background noise and start being something you recognise. After a while, the labels you see every week start reading themselves. That's the point.
Works in the aisle, signal or not
Download your country's food data once over Wi-Fi and the app keeps working where the signal doesn't. Searches run against that local copy first, so results appear instantly whether you're online or not.
Free, and yours
• Free to use, with no ads
• No account needed, from the first launch: everything you scan and log lives on your phone
• Sign in with Google or Apple only if you want a backup or a second device
• Sign out again and your local data stays exactly where it was
Built on Open Food Facts
Product data comes from Open Food Facts, the open, community-run food database. When something's missing (no ingredients, no photo, no nutrition panel) you can fill the gap from inside the app by photographing the label. The app reads it for you and you check every field before anything is sent. Your correction fixes that product for everyone who scans it after you, not just for you.
Un-Process Me doesn't count anything, doesn't hand out rules about what you're allowed to eat, and has no opinion about your body. It makes the ingredients legible. What you do about them is yours.
Un-Process Me is made by ButteredToast Software Ltd, a small startup grown in Cymru (Wales). It isn't medical advice, and it isn't a diet.
