Calm Stress & Panic Relief
When anger, anxiety, panic, or overwhelm hits, it's hard to think, let alone follow instructions. Bao is made for exactly that moment.
Bao is a soft little companion that breathes with you. Open the app, touch the screen once, and a guided breathing session starts on its own. There's nothing to set up, no account to make, and nothing to read. You just breathe with Bao until things feel a little easier.
One button, and that's it
Touch Bao to begin. A slow ring, the breathing mascot, and a few gentle haptic cues show you when to breathe in and when to let go. The session finishes by itself, so you can put the phone down or stop holding the screen and your breathing keeps going. Letting go won't cut it short.
Four modes, each one tuned to how you feel
Anxiety is the default, because it's the gentlest place to start when you're not sure: a calm, even rhythm of 5 seconds in and 5 out, with soft haptics. Anger uses a longer exhale (about 4 seconds in, 6 out) and firmer haptics to help the heat cool. Panic is the lightest of all: short 2-second inhales and 4-second exhales, with no haptics, so nothing adds to the moment. Overwhelm keeps things simple and quiet, an even rhythm with very little going on. None of the rescue breathing uses breath-holds, which can feel constraining when you're already worked up.
Bao meets you where you are. At first, Bao takes on the colour of what you're feeling. With anger that's a warm coral, never an alarming red, like Bao quietly saying 'I feel you.' Then, as you breathe, Bao slowly cools to a calm teal, so the shift from worked-up to settled is something you can actually watch happen.
In a panic? Start here
There's a one-tap shortcut that takes you straight into the gentlest pattern, no decisions required. And if breathing feels like too much right now, you can switch to grounding instead: a couple of small, doable things to notice that bring you back into the room.
A companion, not a course
Bao puffs up as you breathe in and settles as you breathe out. You can pick a background that feels calm to you, like a quiet beach, a snowy mountain, a soft city, or a meadow at night. A couple come free, and Bao Pro opens up the full set.
A little daily practice, if you want it
On a calmer day you can leave a quick note about your mood and energy and keep up a daily breathing habit, free. Over time, Bao Pro shows you how it's going: your mood and energy trends, the gentle themes Bao notices in your notes, and your streaks and minutes.
What's free and what's Pro
The part you reach for in a hard moment is always free: every mode, its guided breathing, and grounding. Bao Pro is for the calmer days, when you want to go further. It adds more breathing techniques (the physiological sigh, box breathing, and a 4-7-8 wind-down), a longer guided Reset session, the full set of backgrounds, and your insights over time.
A few things we care about
Bao is dark-mode only and works in portrait, so it's easy on tired eyes and easy to hold in one hand. It's private: there's no account, and your notes stay on your phone. And the words stay calm and honest. Bao will never tell you that you're fine or that nothing is wrong.
