Review summary
Pros
- Ongoing updates and improvements across the Hammerhead/Karoo app and its devices, with users noting progress over multiple generations.
- Positive sentiment from some users about app integration and platform evolution, including cross-generation updates.
- Initial excitement around having an iOS companion app, signaling platform expansion (despite mixed later feedback).
- Positive notes on some app features and integrations (e.g., cross-device compatibility and data handling) as the platform matures.
Cons
- Lack of support for Karoo 2 (K2) and no backward compatibility; many reviews state the app does not work with K2.
- Perceived obsolescence and upgrade pressure—users feel the app and ecosystem exclude existing, purchased hardware in favor of newer models.
- General reliability and usability concerns—numerous reviews describe the app as useless, not working, or unreliable.
- Limited device compatibility—significant sentiment that the app only properly supports newer Karoo models (e.g., Karoo 3), leaving K2 users out.
- Missing key features/requests (e.g., HealthKit integration) as notable but less widely repeated requests.

| 2026-06-01 | Ze***** | Oh you have a K2 you bought for $500 and want to easily send and track things with smartphones that have been around for a decade? Too bad, pay another $500 for all new hardware and one slightly improved codebase of software, so now you’re $1000 out of pocket equal to or more expensive than a smartphone itself, for software features that could be a patch. Mind you one major draw of the Hammerhead is that it’s basically a smartphone with robust software capabilities. | |
