Features & Capabilities

Zwift Companion is a Chrome extension that makes Zwifting more fun. It acts as a remote control for Zwift you can use before, during, and after rides—helping you plan activities, find events, and connect with clubs all in one place. With personalized ride recommendations, event reminders, and a home screen that shows who's Zwifting and which friends you follow, it’s easier to stay motivated and on track.

During a ride, Zwift Companion lets you send RideOns, chat with other Zwifters, switch routes, adjust trainer resistance on the fly, and control erg mode, screenshots, and nearby rider stats. After your ride, you can review your data, check progress on Tours, and see the people you rode with. Also handy for firmware updates and staying engaged with the Zwift community.

User Reviews

Users praise Zwift Companion as a central hub for tracking progress, events, and social activity, along with route planning and map viewing. However, multiple reviews repeatedly report core problems: unreliable Apple Watch heart-rate connections, general app instability and crashes, health data syncing issues, and a clunky UI for events and calendars that hampers navigation.
Pros
  • Central hub for Zwift activities, progress tracking, events, and communication.
  • Strong event discovery and signup capabilities (including Tour de Zwift events).
  • Route planning support and map overview during rides.
  • Social features and visibility of others' activity with interaction options.
Cons
  • Apple Watch connectivity and heart rate data reliability issues (frequent disconnects).
  • Unreliable/unstable performance with crashes, freezes, and random locks.
  • Apple Health data syncing issues or data not being written after updates.
  • Clunky UI/UX for events/calendar and hard-to-use interaction controls (e.g., tapping).
  • Inconsistent map/data view behavior after updates (map not loading or data view missing).

Good for tracking cycling. Not good for running. You can’t favorite run routes or WOs for running like you can with cycling. So, while, I like it for all the cycling I do with Zwift, it’s not good for when I do my Power walks or walk/runs.

Connections for planned rides never work. I have wasted hours trying to figure out how to get a planned workout from another training app loaded and it won’t work. I’ve cut so many workouts short bc of this stupidity. Then when I give up on trying to figure out how to sync a workout, zwift has no way to co trip the resistance or power when connected to a kickr.
