Features & Capabilities

Versatile cycling app designed to enhance your riding experience. Use a heart rate monitor or Apple watch to estimate power & connect it to your Garmin GPS.

Use your phone as a bike computer, add power to your rides, connect your Apple watch to your Garmin GPS, train with structured workouts, upload to Strava, and use Zwift or any other indoor cycling app on any exercise bike or bike trainer. The app is compatible with Apple watch, Bluetooth Smart heart rate monitors, power meters, cadence sensors and FTMS bike trainers.

Here are the key features:

RECORD OUTDOOR ROUTES AND ADD POWER TO YOUR RIDES • Use HR2VP as a bike tracker • Add power based on heart rate to your rides • Record GPS routes • Automatically upload to STRAVA • Visualize training intensity in real time, including total distance, speed, heart rate, and calories burned • Measure training load across all your bikes

DISPLAY HEART RATE OF YOUR APPLE WATCH ON YOUR GARMIN GPS • Download HR2VP data field from the Connect IQ store and add it to one of your screens • Enable broadcasting to the data field in HR2VP's settings on your phone • Heart rate and power will be sent to your bike computer and saved directly into the '.fit' file • Compatible with Edge 1030, 1030 Plus, 1040, 130 Plus, 530, 540, 830, 840, Explore 2, 550, 850 & 1050

PAIR BLUETOOTH SENSORS • Heart rate monitors • Power meters • Cadence sensors • FTMS bike trainers

USE ANY EXERCISE BIKE WITH ZWIFT (which should be on a separate device) • Utilize your heart rate monitor as a virtual power meter, even on non-smart trainers or spin bikes • The setup is straightforward, and you won’t need additional speed or cadence sensors on your bike • Broadcast virtual power over Bluetooth Low Energy to Zwift • Also compatible with other indoor cycling apps like Rouvy, Kinomap, My Whoosh, indieVelo

TRAIN WITH STRUCTURED WORKOUTS • Connect your smart trainer and follow structured workouts • Use the ‘Ergometer mode’ when connected to a bike trainer to automatically adjust resistance based on target power • HR2VP can be used as a standalone TRAINING app • Take advantage of color codes to visualize your watts and identify different intensity ZONES • Interval training (hiit) • Choose a workout based on training length and intensity among a big library • Access training logs

POWER MATCHING ALGORITHM • HR2VP’s algorithm considers variations in heart rate, not just instant values • Train more precisely with this advanced matching algorithm • Accuracy is good in the aerobic intensity zone but less accurate for shorter sprints (less than 30 seconds) • Customize parameters such as FTP (Functional Threshold Power), weight, rest HR, and max HR

Subscription details: The app is free to try for 15 minutes workouts. For longer training, you need to subscribe in order to unlock the time limit.

User Reviews

User reviews show a mixed experience. The app can offer Zwift compatibility without a power meter and can be a budget-friendly option for training, with some reporting accurate readings when it works. However, there are frequent reliability and compatibility problems across Garmin devices and Apple Watch, plus persistent subscription costs, mid-ride data dropouts, and weak customer support. The most mentioned points are device compatibility issues, the paywall, and inconsistent performance, contrasted by a subset of users who have had positive Zwift-enabled experiences.
Pros
  • Zwift support: enables using Zwift without a traditional power meter, which some users find works and can provide usable power readings when the connection is stable.
  • Budget-friendly option for Zwift/training: marketed as a cheaper alternative to dedicated power meters, appealing to cost-conscious riders.
  • Travel/ gym-friendly use: allows Zwift rides on gym bikes or while traveling, helping maintain training continuity.
  • When functioning, power readings can be surprisingly accurate and provide a workable Zwift integration.
Cons
  • Poor reliability and broad compatibility issues across devices (Garmin Edge models, Apple Watch, etc.), with frequent dropouts or failure to broadcast data.
  • Paywall and recurring subscription costs for core features, leading to user frustration and requests for refunds.
  • Mid-ride dropouts and inconsistent HR data (e.g., HR dropping to zero, incorrect readings), interrupting workouts and Zwift sessions.
  • Limited or slow customer support, with some users reporting no response to inquiries and unresolved issues.
  • Additional setup complexity and occasional app/Connect IQ/Ant+ integration glitches that prevent a seamless experience.
Recent reviews
I have been trying to use the app with the Garmin 1050 for a few months now. I’ve gone through endless attempts, including uninstalling and reinstalling the app at least five times. Grégory Cordier at BIPR has provided great support, but unfortunately he also admitted that there is nothing else to do, and it does not seem to support the Garmin 1050 bike computer.

I thought this was a great idea since I have an Apple Watch. I understand that this only supplies a data field but does not record on my Garmin as heart rate (a limitation by Garmin). I thought it was still worthwhile so I purchased a lifetime subscription. However, it no longer works! I start a workout in the app on my watch and phone, then on the Garmin. But the data field is 0 in both the Garmin and the HR2VP app. I will try to get a refund from Apple.
