Features & Capabilities

Mello is a FREE mental health app designed specifically for young Australians struggling with stuck thinking loops. It has been created by researchers at Orygen Digital within the University of Melbourne, alongside insights from young people.

Mello helps you get unstuck from unhelpful thinking patterns the moment they strike, while helping you build skills to better handle them over time.

Made for daily-life, Mello offers practical tools to help you get out of your head & on with your day—anytime, anywhere.

HOW MELLO WORKS

Mello works by targeting stuck thinking. Stuck thinking, or repetitive negative thoughts, are shown to be drivers of anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions*. Whether you’re worried about a looming deadline, stressing over an argument with a friend, or just having one of those off days, Mello provides in the moment support to help you to break out of the endless loop of negative thoughts.

Through regular check-ins, exercises and short courses, you'll begin to develop an understanding of your negative thought patterns and how to make beneficial long-term changes.

Features on the Mello app: — Get unstuck from repetitive thinking — Receive exercise recommendations based on your stuck level — Relieve your mind by venting your thoughts — Access a range of activities that draw on evidence-based frameworks — Build skills and practice through short courses — Track your mood through regular prompted check-ins — Learn to identify patterns of stuck thinking with insights — Links to emergency supports

By using Mello, you can: — Break negative thinking spirals — Reduce experiences of overwhelming thoughts — Better understand your mind — Feel more confident handling your thoughts

BACKED BY SCIENCE, BUILT FOR LIFE

Mello is not only based on science, it’s also backed by science. The research areas that informed Mello are widely explored across contemporary research approaches*, including: — Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) — Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — Meta-cognitive therapy (MCT) — Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) — Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). We’ve also completed a landmark study conducted by Orygen Digital and the University of Melbourne found that after using Mello for six weeks: — 83% of users reported a reduction in stuck thinking — 79% of users experienced decreased low mood — 61% of users felt more confident managing negative thoughts

BUILT FOR PEOPLE, NOT FOR PROFIT

Mello is backed and delivered by Orygen Digital, a world-leading research organisation and not-for-profit within the University of Melbourne that is dedicated to improving the lives of young people by making mental health support accessible for all.
