Features & Capabilities

Phocus Mobile 2 brings Hasselblad's on-device image processing to mobile, featuring the first local Hasselblad Natural Noise Reduction (NNR) model that preserves natural tones and details. It can process 100MP RAW images in about 15 seconds, unlocking mobile workflow potential and keeping Hasselblad's tone and texture intact. When viewed on HDR-capable iPhone or iPad, photos come alive with HNCS HDR, revealing rich light, shadow, and color gradations.

Expanding the Hasselblad workflow, Phocus Mobile 2 enables faster, more seamless portable editing—full-quality RAW editing powered by the HNCS engine, multi-format downloads (RAW/JPG/HEIF), TIFF exports, and camera control for capture parameters. Compatible Camera Models: X2D II 100C, CFV 100C, X2D 100C, X1D II 50C, CFV II 50C. In-app language support includes Chinese and English for broader use.

User Reviews

Users praise Phocus Mobile 2 for its fast, reliable camera-to-device workflow, especially on iPad, and for its growing editing tools like masking layers. The app delivers strong color rendering and convenient on-the-go editing, with 16-bit export on Mac and good performance noted by many. However, recurring issues include stability problems (crashes/freeze), limited export/import options (no edited RAW export, cloud sync missing, TIFF/8-bit limitations), and restricted import capabilities (no external SSD or USB-C imports, RAW from non-camera sources). Feature gaps remain (delayed shutter, batch denoise, erase tool), and HNNR-related instability has caused setbacks in some updates.
Pros
  • Fast, reliable WiFi connectivity between camera and iPad/iPhone enabling quick on-the-go transfers.
  • Masking/layer editing capabilities, including the recently added masking layer, improving editing flexibility.
  • High-quality color rendering and strong editing tools, often outperforming Lightroom in color reproduction; 16-bit export on Mac.
  • Excellent iPad experience; the iPad version is easier to use and offers a superior workflow.
  • Overall value and travel-friendly workflow; praised as a 'best camera buddy' app.
Cons
  • Stability issues: crashes and freezes on iPadOS, with reliability concerns.
  • Export/import limitations: no edited RAW export, cloud sync missing between iOS and macOS, TIFF export with 8-bit color, large RAW files.
  • Limited import options from external sources: cannot import RAW from SSD or USB-C, no external backup/import on mobile.
  • Missing essential features and workflow controls: delayed shutter release, multi-photo denoise, erase tool, and drive mode settings can be overwritten when releasing the shutter.
  • HNNR integration causing instability after updates, plus ongoing reliability concerns.

Overall, I’m really liking the experience, importing photos and doing some basic editing. What stunned me is the absolute speed in which these massive medium form files get previewed, but also imported. I’m also glad to see more advanced features like masks and gradients come in recent updates, not to mention selecting people. While it’s no Lightroom with editing, the colors are absolutely amazing.

While creating the signature, I should be able to undo rather than reset. Once on the photo, I should be able to move it around.
