Features & Capabilities

Phocus Mobile enables you to remote control a Hasselblad camera and perform basic browsing and rating of images. It connects to a host that can either be the Phocus by Hasselblad software running on Mac or Windows or alternatively directly to one of our WiFi equipped H5D, H6D and X1D cameras. Do note that for connecting directly to X1D II, CFV II cameras and later you will need Phocus Mobile 2 instead.

Camera control includes setting parameters like aperture, shutter, exposure mode etc. It's possible to trigger auto focus, mirror up/down and of course image capture. All this is done via a control panel that neatly simulates the actual UI on the camera itself. Camera live view is also available. When browsing images you can zoom all the way into 100% and handle the star rating. Basic image metadata is available.

Compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Requires iOS 13.0 or later.

User Reviews

Phocus Mobile offers strong on-set benefits like remote client viewing and easy setup, plus basic shooting controls and remote triggering. However, it is plagued by crashes, inconsistent camera compatibility with newer models, outdated software, and missing essential features. The app’s value lies in client collaboration, but reliability and feature gaps limit its professional usability.
Pros
  • Enables remote client viewing and ranking of images during shoots
  • Easy setup and generally reliable launch out of the box
  • Basic live view, focus controls, and exposure controls work as expected
  • Remote triggering and tethering support for on-location shoots
  • Fast, on-device previews to quickly review shots
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and instability across devices and versions
  • Camera compatibility issues and failure to recognize newer Hasselblad models
  • Missing essential features (live histogram, white balance control, video viewing) and inconsistent functionality
  • Lack of ongoing updates, with versions several years old
  • Inability to connect multiple devices simultaneously during sessions

I am a H-series user It is a good app just for preview images instantly. But the quality of preview is very low.

Phocus app for iMac crashes all the time, Hasselblad not only don’t know why but don’t do anything about it. This app is bad as well and I generally not recommend using Phocus app nor Phocus for iMac!!! Avoid Hasselblad as a whole! I have used Hasselblad film and now digital for the last 15-20y and the brand isn’t good anymore, quality went down and price went up.

Phocus Mobile 2 doesn’t support mobile phone! Only iPad, you should call it Phocus iPad! This app is too old. For a camera sells 10000 USD, at least provide some nice support of the apps. This App doesn’t show Live Photo’s via your camera lens, you don’t even know where your camera is focusing on. Neither showing the position if you want to take selfie. Please update this one ASAP!! Last version was 2 years ago!!
