User Reviews

SleepTown is praised for its cute, playful UI and its gamified town-building. Users report it helps reduce late-night phone use and encourages consistent bed and wake times, with visual rewards like buildings growing providing motivation. The Forest brand synergy is a plus. Some reviewers find strict mode too harsh when wakeups aren’t met, and a few bugs or unclear coin/advanced features can be frustrating. Overall, most reviews emphasize the appealing design, habit-forming potential, and motivating visuals that support better sleep habits.
Pros
  • Cute UI/design and gamified concept (building town) that many users find appealing.
  • Helps establish a consistent sleep schedule and reduces late-night phone usage.
  • Visual rewards (buildings growing) provide satisfying, motivating feedback.
  • Positive synergy with Forest ecosystem and familiar brand, which some users appreciate.
  • Basics are intuitive and easy to use, making the core experience accessible.
Cons
  • Strict mode can be overly restrictive and frustrating when wake-up times aren’t met.
  • Occasional alarm reliability issues or progress loss (e.g., demolished buildings) can be discouraging.

I got this ages ago because I really loved (and still love) their Forest app. Since then, I’ve tried over and over to make it work, but I just can’t. It hasn’t had a News update thing since 2020 (and that was for Android users), and I think this app has largely fallen off their radar. Primarily, this is because the app just doesn’t work if you have a sleep schedule that varies by the day. Sometimes I get home from work at 11pm so I can’t go to bed at 10:30pm. They don’t let you change the sleep schedule overall or choose more than two days off. My workaround has been to change the bedtime and wake up goal each time I need to go to sleep (since they also don’t let you sleep before 2 hours before your bedtime goal). The app also doesn’t let you go to sleep at anytime PAST your bedtime, even by a minute. It’s genuinely insane. The same workaround I mentioned earlier works for me, but it would be nice to have a way to have multiple “sleep schedules” or have a grace period that the user could choose around the sleep / wake up time. Seemingly you can’t also can’t demolish buildings without losing the sleep data… why?? I mainly got the app so I would record sleep data, so I’m not super happy about having to keep demolished buildings (as, in my opinion, it’s also too expensive to demolish them anyway). I’d love for this to be more like Forest, where you can filter the plants you see by day/week/month/year and there could even be a lifetime option. I don’t want to be forced to see my demolished buildings from 5 months ago when I (heaven forbid) woke up too early because I had work I needed to do. It shows the week on the default page, but I think the options for the time span would be nice to see in the The Big Town tab! I’d also love to see a stopwatch option for sleeping, similar to how forest has a stopwatch for studying. Sometimes, I want the data, even if I didn’t have perfect sleep times!! Finally (and this is also an issue in Forest) the app just logs you out mistakenly a lot. Right now, it has my account in Settings but “Please sign in first.” on the Achievements page. I don’t personally mind it that much, but it’s just a bit annoying that the two pages are contradicting each other.

Very cute design! It’s really preventing you from using your phone at night in the strict mode. Could be a little frustrating when you failed to get up on time and the building is ruined, but you can always restart the streak and set the time that works for you.
