User Reviews

Review themes consistently show Kortext as a mixed bag: when it functions, users find it usable but fragile. The major pain points are navigation and page control (LOC instead of pages, hard jumping to chapters), frequent crashes and sign-in problems, and problematic Read Aloud features. Users also complain about limited annotation options and highlight behavior, plus access issues (duplicate accounts, login loops, and slow support). A few reviewers note the app is decent or not bad when working, but overall reliability and usability appear to be the core hurdles blocking effective use for coursework.
Pros
  • When it works, the app is usable and some reviewers call it decent/not bad.
  • Annotation features exist (highlighting and notes) and are usable to some extent.
  • For students using school-purchased ebooks, Kortext provides centralized access in a single app.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes, slow loading, and sign-in/out problems.
  • Poor navigation and paging: uses LOC instead of real page numbers; hard to jump to chapters and scrolling is inconsistent.
  • Read Aloud features are unreliable: limited voices, stops at page end, not continuous.
  • Annotation/highlighting limitations: can't cross pages, cumbersome UI, copying text is difficult.
  • Account/access issues: duplicate accounts, login loops, accounts not found, and slow or unresponsive support.

Digital text books are a pain in general. Largely because you can’t flip through them like a regular book. But with Kortext specifically, I can’t just highlight AND notate on the page that I’m reading. I have to create a notes page which is a pain to go back and reference later. It also takes time to load and I haven’t been able to figure out how to just edit the notes page that I’ve already taken notes on. I have to create a new notes pages… I miss regular text books.

The app and website are super slow. I always have to refresh both because of how many times it freezes when I am imputing notes. Horrible system to get your books!!!!!!

I got this app so I can do my college work. It is OK for reading however I do a lot of driving so I thought maybe I would have the app read to me so that’s where the insult starts if you want Stephen Hawkins to read you and this app will be great. It literally sounds like a computer. You can barely understand not to mention the features in here are so ridiculously lockdown. It’s almost a worthless app.
