Amazon Container

Amazon Container isolates your Amazon activity from the rest of your web activity in order to prevent Amazon from tracking you outside of the Amazon ecosystem via third party cookies.

Amazon Container is a Firefox add-on designed to enhance your online privacy by preventing Amazon from tracking your activity on other websites. It isolates your Amazon sessions in a separate container, ensuring your browsing outside Amazon remains private. Inspired by Mozilla's Facebook Container, this extension deletes tracking cookies and automatically opens Amazon in its own container tab. While it disables Amazon-linked buttons and embedded content on other sites, it effectively stops Amazon from linking your browsing data across the web.

Though it doesn't eliminate all data collection Amazon performs within its own ecosystem, Amazon Container significantly limits cross-site tracking. For broader protection, users can combine it with privacy features like Private Browsing, Tracking Protection, blocking third-party cookies, and Firefox Multi-Account Containers. This extension empowers you to continue using Amazon while maintaining greater control over your web privacy.

User reviews

Amazon Container successfully isolates Amazon domains in Firefox containers, mirroring the Facebook Container's approach. However, users report issues with the add-on resetting icon and color preferences upon restart. It lacks comprehensive coverage of all Amazon-related sites, missing major acquisitions like CurseForge and Whole Foods. Some embedded content is blocked without whitelisting options. Also, conflicts with other container add-ons limit its combined use in browsers. Despite these drawbacks, it remains a sought-after tool for enhancing privacy across Amazon domains.
Pros
  • Effectively isolates Amazon-owned sites in dedicated containers as intended.
  • Provides similar functionality to the Facebook Container but for Amazon domains.
  • Good idea to improve privacy and compartmentalization while browsing Amazon properties.
Cons
  • Icon and color settings reset after browser restart, causing user frustration.
  • Does not support all Amazon acquisitions and related domains, missing significant sites like CurseForge and Whole Foods.
  • Conflicts may occur with other container add-ons, limiting simultaneous usage.
  • Some embedded content (e.g., Twitch streams) can be blocked, with no easy way to whitelist sites.
