User Reviews

Users praise NHS Couch to 5K for effectively helping beginners build running fitness with motivational coaching and no ads. The app supports listening to music and offers multiple coach voices. However, several users face issues like timer pauses due to battery optimizations, occasional freezing, and device security errors on specific phones. Some desire a distance tracker and better control over coach voiceovers. Despite minor usability and customization complaints, the app is highly recommended for newcomers aiming to improve running ability gradually.
Pros
  • Effective for beginners to gradually build running ability from no fitness to running 5K non-stop.
  • Motivational and well-structured program with professional coaching voices.
  • No ads and free to use, providing a distraction-free environment.
  • Allows users to listen to their own music or podcasts alongside the coaching voice with audio ducking.
  • Includes optional features like warm-up exercises and choice of coaches to personalize experience.
Cons
  • Issues with app timer resetting or pausing unexpectedly during runs, often related to battery optimization settings on devices.
  • Occasional app freezing or long loading times, particularly on older devices or specific run days.
  • Some users report device security or rooted device detection errors, blocking app use on certain phones or custom firmware.
  • Limited customizability for workout adjustments and inability to disable or reduce coach voiceover chatter.
  • No built-in distance tracking feature requested by users to monitor run length in miles/kilometers.

On week 3, I started my weight loss journey January 8th 2024, lost 5.5stone by January 2025, then started this on the eve of 1 year.. I'm doing it to shift the next 2.5 stone, and on week 3 I can feel the want in me to keep going, and this app has really really helped me. I think if you've gone from nothing to doing this, repeat the first 2 weeks a few times. by week 3 you'll be ready for the 3min run. it's tough going also get some good trainers, spend some money on them. IMHO. good luck!

This app was priceless in improving my fitness. From not being able to run for more than a minute to running 5k non stop, losing weight and feeling great. I am so grateful. Yasmin was my coach and she did a great job. This has changed my life for the better. Thank you
