JShelter: Chrome Extension for Improved Browser Security & Privacy

JShelter is a crucial Chrome extension that significantly improves your web browsing security and privacy. Acting like a firewall, it controls the browser's APIs to restrict the data they can access and send out to web pages, thus preventing malicious tracking and fingerprinting. Users also have the added control to permit certain sites while adding restrictions, further enhancing their online security. This extension proves to be a strong defense against potential attacks on browsers, operating systems or hardware.

What is JShelter?

JShelter is a browser extension to give back control over what your browser is doing. A JavaScript-enabled web page can access much of the browser's functionality, with little control over this process available to the user: malicious websites can uniquely identify you through fingerprinting and use other tactics for tracking your activity. JShelter aims to improve the privacy and security of your web browsing.

How does it work?

Like a firewall that controls network connections, JShelter controls the APIs provided by the browser, restricting the data that they gather and send out to websites. JShelter adds a safety layer that allows the user to choose if a certain action should be forbidden on a site, or if it should be allowed with restrictions, such as reducing the precision of geolocation to the city area. This layer can also aid as a countermeasure against attacks targeting the browser, operating system or hardware.

t's incredibly and unnecessarily complex. The notification pop-ups can't be stopped without being a developer or advanced knowledge of the extension which is incredibly frustrating. The slider options for manual adjustments are useless, they are for information purposes only even when in Chrome extension Developer Mode. Also, unlike the now malware ridden Fingerprint Spoofing extension, JShelter randomly spoofs your GPU instead of just stating "Unknown" at the recommended setting. The number of CPU cores can't be blocked even if you use a custom setting. Basically, you're stuck with the various presets unless you create your own custom level. And given what happened with Fingerprint Spoofing and other extensions (infected with malware), you should continuously back-up (pack extension) of all the extensions you feel are critical. However, if Google flags your extension, it disables it permanently.

Благодарность разработчикам. Правда, поднагружает процессор (это неточно, проверьте)
