Web Archives Firefox

Web Archives

View archived and cached versions of web pages on various search engines, such as the Wayback Machine and Archive․is.

Features & Capabilities

Web Archives is a cross-browser extension that lets you quickly locate archived and cached versions of web pages. Searches can be triggered from the context menu, the browser toolbar, or the address bar when a page fails to load, and you can choose from many search engines.

As an open-source, community-driven project, you can contribute via Patreon, PayPal, or Coinbase. Customize sources, reorder them in the options, and even search a link without visiting the page by right-clicking the link and using the context menu. Pro TIP: visit the wiki for the list of supported engines and privacy details.

User Reviews

Users appreciate the quick access to web archives that the add-on provides. However, multiple users note that the add-on often returns 'No results' and suggest improvements such as opening a snapshot history page instead of a single snapshot to enhance browsing and reduce dead ends.
Pros
  • Provides quick access to web archives
Cons
  • Occasionally returns 'No results' when searching for snapshots
  • Opens a specific snapshot directly rather than the snapshot history page
  • User experience can be improved by showing multiple snapshots or history for better selection

Is Web Archives Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Web Archives requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.
