Review summary

Users largely praise UserLAnd as a generally good, easy-to-use tool for Linux on Android and a helpful learning aid, especially when used alongside Termux. However, recurring criticisms focus on paywalls that lock GUI and other features, and on the app being viewed as redundant or overshadowed by Termux, which affects perceived ongoing support.
Pros
  • Positive overall experience and enjoyment of the app
  • Helpful for learning and practicing Linux/coding on Android
  • Works well and is easy to use
  • Can be used alongside Termux (not a replacement)
Cons
  • Paywalls lock GUI features and other capabilities (including sound); paying does not reliably unlock functionality
  • Termux is seen by some users as a replacement/competition, reducing the perceived value of UserLAnd

this whole app is ragebait like he's charging for open source things he literally copied termux, anyone who bought the subscription is proof money can't buy a brain.

In the move to the freemium model it seems some things were broken, like the ability to choose usernames and passwords. A CLI is achievable, as is a minimal window managed session, but most full desktops fail to install. The docs are little help. Ultimately, you may have to pay if you want something usable.
