Spoof Geolocation Firefox

Spoof Geolocation

By: Joue
This extension alters browser Geolocation latitude and longitude to user-defined values

Features & Capabilities

The Spoof Geolocation Chrome extension enables users to alter the browser's reported geographic location by setting custom latitude and longitude values. It works seamlessly even if no geolocation device is present or if it is globally disabled. When the standard navigator.geolocation object isn't detected, the extension utilizes a polyfill to provide location spoofing capabilities.

Key features include spoofing of permissions to grant geolocation access, the ability to allow or deny geolocation requests via a right-click context menu, and support for core JavaScript geolocation methods such as navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition and navigator.geolocation.watchPosition. This extension is ideal for developers testing location-based applications or for users seeking enhanced privacy by masking their real location.

User Reviews

Users report that Spoof Geolocation generally works and spoofs location as intended, with the caveat that performance varies by site and is not always precise. While some praise the ability to set a chosen lat/long, others complain about a confusing UI, difficulty configuring, and inconsistent behavior across sites (Google Maps works better than OpenStreetMap). The add-on is not self-contained and often relies on external coordinate tools, and users desire per-site controls like blacklist/whitelist.
Pros
  • Generally works on most pages, providing spoofed geolocation as intended.
  • Allows setting a specific latitude/longitude to spoof your location.
  • In some cases yields more accurate location than the network-provided one (city-level), not always street-level.
  • Works across the latest Firefox and is reliable in practice.
  • Positive developer support mentioned by users.
Cons
  • UI/UX is confusing and hard to discover/configure; options are not clearly exposed.
  • Inconsistent behavior across sites (e.g., works on Google Maps but not on OpenStreetMap; accuracy varies).
  • Not self-contained; relies on external tools/coordinate services to obtain coordinates.
  • Missing per-site controls (no blacklist/whitelist feature requested by users).

Very bad choice. I don't like having to write my geolocation on each web page that I open. Especially when there is a default that I cannot even set to my real location.

Works fine initially. If it stops working, I'll change this review. Like one other reviewer, I declined when Firefox asked me if I wanted to add it to the (um) toolbar (?), so none of the advice about how to use it made any sense. I somehow managed to make the Spoof Geolocation icon appear when I hovered (or something) on the jigsaw-piece icon. When I clicked on that, I was in the right place. I pasted in my coords (copied from Google Maps) and then I was fine. I guess I'm saying that the instructions tell you how to use it, but not how to get into it. Some detailed instructions for dummies would be really good.
