Spoof Geolocation

This extension alters browser Geolocation latitude and longitude to user-defined values

The Spoof Geolocation Chrome extension lets users alter their browser's reported geographic coordinates by manually setting custom latitude and longitude values. It works seamlessly even if the device lacks geolocation hardware or if GEO permissions are disabled globally. The extension spoofs the navigator.geolocation API, including key methods like getCurrentPosition and watchPosition, and it can also fake permissions to grant GEO access.

Users can easily deny or allow geolocation access via the right-click context menu on the extension button. Additional features include randomizing reported location data, configuring the accuracy parameter, and retaining the last 10 GEO coordinates used. This tool is ideal for privacy-conscious users, developers testing location-based apps, and those wanting to bypass location restrictions. It supports polyfill when the native geolocation API is not detected and integrates well with proxy setups for accurate spoofing.

User reviews

The Spoof Geolocation Chrome extension is praised for reliably spoofing location data and helping overcome browser or network geolocation issues, serving as a vital tool for some users. However, it requires manual latitude/longitude inputs without a map interface and can be annoying by repeatedly asking for coordinates when switching networks. It also cannot spoof certain aggressive geolocation detection methods. Overall, users find it effective and essential despite some usability challenges.
Pros
  • Effectively spoofs geolocation as intended, working well for various use cases.
  • Helps bypass geolocation restrictions on websites, including on browsers or systems with limited native support (e.g., Vivaldi on Linux).
  • Seen as reliable and useful by a majority of users, with many confirming it works perfectly or great.
  • Appreciated for fixing issues with inaccurate location reporting in browsers like Chrome.
  • Regarded as one of the better or best geo spoofing extensions available on the Chrome Store.
Cons
  • Users must manually input latitude and longitude coordinates; no integrated map or search box to select locations, making it harder to use.
  • Extension prompts for coordinates repeatedly when switching between different networks, causing annoyance.
  • Some users find settings or features hard to find or navigate.
  • Does not spoof the most aggressive geolocation methods based on iframe sandbox contentWindow extraction, leaving some location data unspoofed.

Extension safety

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Spoof Geolocation requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.

Risk impact analysis details
  • Critical Allows access to all websites, posing a significant security risk as it can monitor and modify data from any visited site.
Risk likelihood
Risk likelihood measures the probability that a Chrome extension may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Chrome extension reputation on Chrome Web Store, the amount of time the Chrome extension has been around, and other signals about the Chrome extension. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Chrome extension.
