SplitScale Firefox

SplitScale

A Split Tunneling Solution through Tailscale based on domain matching.

Features & Capabilities

SplitScale provides seamless integration with Tailscale, enabling users to automatically route their browser traffic through specific exit nodes based on the active domains they visit. By leveraging Tailscale's secure and private network capabilities, SplitScale ensures that your browsing activity is routed securely through predefined exit nodes, offering enhanced privacy and control over your network traffic.

Key Features:

  1. Domain-Based Routing: Automatically route traffic through different Tailscale exit nodes based on the domains you visit. Configure domain-to-exit-node mappings to ensure sensitive or specific traffic is always routed through the desired node.
  2. Automatic Tailscale Management: Automatically enable or disable Tailscale based on the active domains. If no domain requires Tailscale, it will be disabled to save resources and optimize performance.
  3. User-Friendly Interface: Simple and intuitive interface for managing domain settings and monitoring the current Tailscale status directly from the browser.
  4. Security and Privacy: By using Tailscale's secure network, your browsing activity is protected from potential threats, ensuring that sensitive data is encrypted and routed through trusted nodes.

Technical Details:

  1. Communication with Tailscale Daemon: The SplitScale Extension communicates with a locally running Flask daemon that manages Tailscale operations. This daemon handles enabling, disabling and switching of exit-nodes for Tailscale.

Disclaimer: This project was initially started out of necessity as certain very basic websites like Reddit and Crunchyroll were being blocked by my ISP and search engines continuously annoying with captchas on every search. While SplitScale can be used for broader privacy and security purposes, its original intent was to bypass these specific restrictions by routing traffic through Tailscale's exit nodes. Future updates will include additional features to further enhance its functionality.
