User Reviews

Side View is a productivity-oriented Firefox add-on that opens links in a sidebar while keeping a main page visible. Reviews praise its core concept, ease of use, and strong tab-management potential, with multi-window workflows described as a game-changer. However, widespread mobile-rendering issues on sites like YouTube Music and Pinterest, missing UI features (address bar, direct open, shortcuts), and reliability concerns significantly temper its appeal.
Pros
  • Significantly boosts productivity and multitasking by keeping a main page while opening links in a sidebar.
  • Easy to use and generally useful.
  • Improves tab management and organization; easy switching between pages.
  • Highly flexible for multi-window workflows and complex setups (e.g., window snapping).
Cons
  • Forces mobile rendering on many sites (notably music.youtube.com), causing broken UI and playback.
  • Lacks essential UI/navigation features (no address bar, cannot open directly in side view without duplicating tabs; requests for shortcuts/tabs).
  • Inconsistent rendering and reliability across sites; reports of bugs and conflicts.
  • Pages are not kept loaded consistently, reducing usefulness in some workflows.

I rated two stars for to the widely reported issue of the extension forcing some websites to load in mobile view and breaking functionality, especially with YouTube Music. While waiting for an update from Mozilla (…) I’ve found a workaround: if you open the broken website *inside the sidebar* and request there the “Desktop Version” from the extension menu, it will load correctly even outside the sidebar. I’m writing this with the add-on installed and YouTube Music playing in the background.
