RSSPreview

Preview RSS feeds in-browser

RSSPreview is a Chrome extension designed to offer seamless in-browser previewing of RSS feeds. After Firefox removed RSS support in version 64 and above, including its popular preview functionality, RSSPreview steps in to restore and enhance this capability for users.

Key features include automatic detection of RSS feeds with a convenient address bar button, specialized detection for feeds on iTunes podcast pages, and the ability to apply custom CSS for personalized styling. RSSPreview provides a simple and efficient way to stay updated with your favorite web content without leaving your browser.

User reviews

Users appreciate RSSPreview for its quick and reliable RSS feed detection and previewing in Firefox, praising its minimalistic and efficient design that avoids high CPU usage. It works well with recent Firefox versions and suits users needing occasional feed checks. However, it lacks live bookmark features and sometimes incorrectly downloads feeds instead of previewing them. Earlier issues with YouTube channel detection (especially with non-English characters) were noted but fixed. The preview UI is functional but basic, which some users find less appealing.
Pros
  • Quickly finds and previews RSS feeds when available.
  • Lightweight and minimalistic design with a straightforward UI.
  • Reliable and works well with recent versions of Firefox.
  • Efficient and does not consume excessive CPU resources.
  • Useful for occasional RSS feed checking without additional features like live bookmarks.
Cons
  • Does not support live bookmarks or displaying feed headlines on the bookmark toolbar.
  • Some feed URLs incorrectly trigger file downloads instead of previews.
  • Partial issues in detecting YouTube channels with non-English characters (though this was fixed).
  • Preview UI is somewhat basic and minimalistic.

BTW, please add "atom:icon" to rss.xml file (into "feedTitleImage" img tag), because some services use "atom:icon" instead of "atom:logo".
