User reviews

Pros
  • Works well with the official JetBrains Toolbox app and IDEs downloaded via it.
  • Useful especially when working within the JetBrains ecosystem.
  • Supports integration with GitLab, including some self-hosted company instances.
  • Enables opening projects directly from GitHub and Bitbucket repositories.
  • Provides some configuration import capability for IDEs.
Cons
  • The extension auto-selects IDEs based on project language, suggesting IDEs not installed by the user without option to customize which installed IDEs to use.
  • Lacks support for private or custom GitLab instances in some cases.
  • Compatibility issues with updated UI layouts on GitHub and Bitbucket causing toolbar buttons or features to disappear or duplicate.
  • Does not always work properly on Linux and Windows systems, sometimes failing to launch or clone projects.
  • Missing requested features like SSH clone option, Android Studio support, and integration with additional code hosts like Gitee.

It can’t be used as it is right now. The extension automatically detects the language used in the GitLab project and then suggests an IDE. For example, with my Terraform project, it only suggests IntelliJ IDEA. However, I don’t have IntelliJ IDEA—just WebStorm and PhpStorm. I’d like the extension to only suggest IDEs that I actually have installed. It would be great if there was an option in the settings to let users select which IDEs they have. In my case, I want to be able to checkout projects using WebStorm or PhpStorm, regardless of the project’s language.

Все работает. Надо просто установить toolbox app и скачать IDE через него (ну или просто почитать чертово описание плагина, где это и так написано). P.S. Импорт конфигураций тоже есть.

I saddens me a lot that it is (still) not possible to configure company gitlab instances.
