User reviews

Users appreciate that the Twitch Live Extension effectively notifies them about live streams and has a simple, updated interface. However, many report frequent, sometimes excessive authorization pop-ups that can overwhelm the desktop. There are recurring issues where the extension fails to show live streams due to login or authorization problems. Some users also express security concerns about how the login is handled. Despite these issues, the extension remains popular and is considered useful once authorized properly.
Pros
  • Extension works well and does what it's supposed to, including live notifications for followed Twitch streams.
  • User interface is simple and intuitive, making it easy to use.
  • Provides useful features like stream time display and a list of live followed channels.
  • Regular updates and ongoing support make the extension reliable over time.
Cons
  • Frequent and multiple authorization pop-ups cause significant annoyance, sometimes opening dozens of windows automatically.
  • Issues with authorization leading to the extension showing followed channels as all offline despite streams being live.
  • Concerns over suspicious login methods that don't authenticate via the official Twitch domain, raising security and privacy fears.
  • Notifications or live alerts may stop working intermittently and require reauthorization to fix.
  • Not fully compatible with some browsers like Yandex, and occasionally experiences issues after Twitch system updates.

Great but as other reviewers have mentioned this extension should really lower the frequency with which it opens the authorization needed window whenever it does need authorization every few months or so. On a tiling window manager it's really annoying to sometimes come back to my computer to tens windows increasingly tiled smaller and smaller. It ought to just authorize less often, or alternatively have a better icon for when it is unauthorized and only ever open the auth window when the user clicks on the extension to fix it. opening automatically is just annoying.

Does great most times but every now and then you'll wake up to find your PC has 50 windows asking for authorisation to read who you follow on Twitch. I'm guessing this happens when Twitch updates it's systems and the app has to adjust? Which is fine - but the volume of alerts is crazy. It would be good to restrict it to only one automatic prompt per day - still allow for prompts when actually clicked on for use, but once per day should be enough otherwise. My only criticism, everything else is fine. Updating for 12th June 2025: This happened again (above review was from 29th April). Also included a redirect to ht tee ps colon slash slash nlnfdlcbnpafokhpjfffmoobbejpedgj.chromiumapp dot org which is needless to say very suspicious... To reply to the question in the below developer comment: I am always logged into Twitch, I visit streams often, maybe a week apart at the longest.

Everything's working here. The live notifications are working perfectly too.

Extension safety

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Twitch Live Extension requires very minimum permissions.
