What is JSON Formatter?
JSON Formatter is an open-source Chrome extension that makes JSON and JSONP easy to read. It comes with several features including syntax highlighting with multiple themes, collapsible trees with indent guides and line numbers. It also offers clickable URLs and allows you to toggle between raw and parsed JSON. The extension works on any valid JSON page, and even on local files once enabled from chrome://extensions. Furthermore, you can inspect the JSON simply by typing 'json' in the console. The source code can be found at github.com/nikrolls/json-formatter.

FYI for anyone saying this no longer works: there is a NEW version of this extension by callumlocke.com. Just do a search for the same name, "JSON formatter" and it should come up as one of the first results.

FYI: Working with local files can be can turned on at "Manage Extensions" > "Allow access to file URLs"
