What is Readable?

"Readable" is a simple yet efficient Chrome extension designed to enhance the readability of unstyled HTML pages. It modifies the body style of these pages to lessen strain on the eyes and improve the reading experience. Readable applies changes such as color adjustment, padding addition, line height alteration, and font change to present the content neatly and clearly. It's most effective on sites without CSS and doesn’t remedy poorly designed CSS.

Do you have to read a html page? Does it completely lack any sort of styling? Then Readable is for you!

Readable adds the following styles to the body of a html page:

color: #444; padding: 0 25%; line-height: 1.4em; font-family: 'Helvetica',sans-serif;

The result: Your page is now readable! The background is slightly darker and the text is slightly lighter - lower contrast means it is easier to read. Padding is added to put the content in the middle of the page rather than from the edges, which is horrible to look at. The font is changed to Helvetica, which is a nice font.

Activate Readable by clicking the icon next to the Omnibar.
