User reviews

CRX Inspector is a Chrome extension designed to view other extensions' source code. Users find it useful when operational, but many reviews highlight that it no longer works reliably or at all for many extensions, particularly paid apps. Moreover, the extension appears abandoned since it hasn't been updated since 2014, lacking support for newer Chrome extension standards. These issues significantly reduce its effectiveness, though some users still express appreciation for its original functionality.
Pros
  • Provides functionality to inspect Chrome extensions' source code
  • Useful when it works as intended
  • Has been appreciated by some users for its capabilities
Cons
  • Seems abandoned with no updates since 2014
  • Does not work consistently or at all on many extensions, especially paid apps
  • Fails to handle some webstore items correctly due to faulty HTTP requests
  • No support for Manifest V3 extensions, limiting current usability

Move along, Nothing to see here. Suggest "Chrome Extension source viewer" ( id: jifpbeccnghkjeaalbbjmodiffmgedin ) for similar functionality. ______ Appears to be Abandoned. - Doesn't appear to do work. - Extension (and GitHub Project) last updated 2014. - Predates the Chrome Extensions v3 manifest. I'm surprised it can even be installed.

This does not work on all webstore items. It will sometimes fail to display anything. It makes a wrong http request and never gets back the correct redirect url, so it ends up with an empty response (204 status).

Extension safety

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

CRX Inspector requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.

This is determined by the publisher and the Chrome extension reputation on Chrome Web Store, the amount of time the Chrome extension has been around, and other signals about the Chrome extension. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Chrome extension.
