Zoom for Google Chrome

Zoom in or out on web content using the zoom button and mouse scroll wheel for more comfortable reading. That to each percent value.

Zoom for Google Chrome is a powerful browser extension designed to improve your online reading and viewing experience. It provides an intuitive slider and zoom buttons that allow you to effortlessly adjust the zoom level of any webpage from 1% up to 400%, catering especially to users with vision challenges like myopia or lazy eye. The extension offers multiple zoom engines to customize whether you want to zoom the entire page, only the text, or use CSS style zooming, preserving website layout and formatting.

Key features include scroll-to-zoom using a dedicated button, the ability to save zoom preferences per website, zoom all open tabs simultaneously, and handy right-click context menus for quick access to zoom levels. Additional customization options such as display badges showing zoom percentages, customizable zoom steps, and visual magnifier cues help personalize your browsing experience. The extension also supports dark mode and integrates well with the popular "Turn Off the Lights" extension to enhance video viewing on sites like YouTube by enlarging video players within a dimmed backdrop. With configurable keyboard shortcuts and variable popup designs, Zoom for Google Chrome offers a comprehensive and user-friendly solution to all your zooming needs.

User reviews

Users appreciate 'Zoom for Google Chrome' for enabling independent and precise zoom levels per tab, enhancing accessibility and user experience. Common issues include bugs triggered by the mouse button zoom feature affecting right-click behavior on sites like Google and Twitter, zoom levels resetting on page refresh, and occasional page crashes on specific websites. Some users also find the zoom input UI to be small or visually cluttered due to overlapping with Chrome's default zoom popup. Overall, it is considered a valuable and effective extension despite minor bugs.
Pros
  • Allows independent zoom levels for each browser tab.
  • Supports precise zoom percentages and custom zoom settings.
  • Useful for accessibility and reading fine print or tiny fonts on websites.
  • Compliments Chrome's built-in zoom by offering finer control and features.
  • Easy to use with a straightforward interface.
Cons
  • Causes issues with right-click behavior on some sites when advanced mouse button zoom setting is enabled.
  • Loses zoom level on page refresh, resetting zoom to default.
  • May cause page crashes or auto-refresh on specific websites (e.g., zhihu.com).
  • The input box for manual zoom settings is small and not very user-friendly.
  • Standard browser zoom overlay can interfere with extension's interface causing visual clutter.

So I've been using this for over at least a year now and have been quite satisfied with it. But a weird issue I've been getting recently is that right clicking on some sites like "Google search page results" where right clicking will cause the scroll bar to disappear and for page elements to expand a bit, but everything goes back to normal the instant right click is let go. Very minor, but weird. On other sites like "Twitter/X", right clicking triggers a scroll to top effect no matter what you click on. Image, link, video, menu, a blank space on the page, etc. Which is deal breaking annoying. Finally tracked down what extension was causing this behavior, and it's this one, and it's specifically the setting "Hold the 'mouse button', and scroll up or down to change the zoom level" under advanced options of the extension. Simply having the option enabled causes that behavior, and it has additional sub options for left and right click, and the issue is present with either one. Tested it repeatedly. This behavior persists on browser and system restart. Even installed and tested it in another Chromium browser, and the behavior persists. Great little extension regardless, and have had no other issue at all with it.
