Quick Tabs

A keyboard centric most recently used (MRU) ordered page list plugin with seek and switch functionality inspired by IntelliJ IDEA

Quick Tabs is a powerful Google Chrome extension that transforms tab management with a keyboard-centric approach inspired by IntelliJ IDEA's "Recent Files" feature. Designed for efficiency, it lists all open tabs across windows in most recently used (MRU) order, enabling fast, mouse-free navigation. Users can quickly seek and switch between tabs with minimal keystrokes, even when handling numerous open tabs.

Key features include comprehensive fuzzy searching through tabs, bookmarks, and browsing history, supporting advanced search commands and regex. It also offers handy tab management commands like closing, duplicating, merging, splitting, muting, and grouping tabs directly via quick queries. Additional features like tracking recently closed tabs, custom CSS styling for the popup, and intuitive keyboard shortcuts make Quick Tabs an indispensable productivity tool for Chrome users seeking streamlined tab workflow management.

User reviews

Quick Tabs is praised for greatly enhancing tab management with powerful search, keyboard shortcuts, and integration of recently closed tabs. Users with many tabs find it indispensable and appreciate customization options. However, common issues include occasional glitches in displaying new tabs, unexpected tab switching behavior across windows, and dark mode visibility problems. The extension also lacks window-specific tab separation and has minor UI glitches related to popup behavior when closing tabs. Overall, it's a highly recommended tool for power users despite some recurring bugs.
Pros
  • Highly effective for managing numerous open tabs and improves productivity
  • Superior tab search and navigation features compared to Chrome's native capabilities
  • Keyboard shortcuts enhance quick tab switching and overall usability
  • Supports recently closed tabs and bookmarks integration
  • Customizable with CSS and capable of matching user themes
Cons
  • Occasionally fails to display newly opened tabs in the list
  • Has issues with switching to random tabs in other windows instead of the most recently used
  • Dark mode compatibility problems, especially with tab count visibility
  • Does not separate tabs by window when multiple browser windows are open
  • Popup closes unexpectedly when closing tabs, linked with a focus/blur conflict

Even though Chrome has a tab switcher shortcut, this extension has far superior search making it a better option.

Tab search is already included in Chrome (Ctrl+Alt +A), so there's likely no use for this extension anymore.
