User reviews

WordWeb Dictionary Lookup is praised for its reliability, multi-device compatibility, offline access, fast look-ups, and rich dictionary resources, making it indispensable for English learners and writers. However, some users experience functionality issues on certain browsers, and the extension opens definitions outside the browser, which could be improved. There are concerns about the extension's compliance with Chrome best practices and requests for additional pronunciation and meaning features. Overall, it remains a highly regarded and useful tool for vocabulary and word usage.
Pros
  • Highly reliable and has been used by users for many years across multiple devices.
  • Provides quick and easy word look-ups, saving time and maintaining writing flow.
  • Includes multiple dictionaries and a thesaurus, enhancing word precision and vocabulary.
  • Offers offline usage, making it accessible without an internet connection.
  • User-friendly interface with useful features like hot-keys for faster access.
Cons
  • Control right-click and toolbar icon functionality do not work reliably on some browsers like Vivaldi.
  • The extension opens a separate application window instead of displaying definitions within the browser, which some users find inconvenient.
  • Concerns about lack of updates or following best practices for Chrome extensions, risking possible discontinuation.
  • Requests for enhanced features such as clear pronunciation guides, syllable breakdowns, and multiple meanings per parts of speech.

"This extension may soon no longer be supported because it doesn't follow best practices for Chrome extensions." Why 'Google' alerts me? Would you like to clarify a bit more? ...as I'm using you (WordWeb) since 2K09 till date! Used this for years. I have a fairly good vocabulary, but much of what I read challenges me. Then, of course, when I write, I oftentimes need precision. Having synonyms at my fingertips saves time and therefore I'm less likely to lose my thread of thought.
