Features & Capabilities

Eye Care 20 20 20 is a simple Chrome extension that helps reduce eye strain by applying the 20-20-20 rule: after every 20 minutes of screen time, take a 20-second break and look at objects 20 feet away. It runs in the background and notifies you at the interval, with a Start button to begin and Stop to end.

There are no complex settings—open the app, click Start, and the notifications will continue until you click Stop. When you’re done, open the app and click Stop to halt notifications. The experience is designed to be distraction-free and quick to use. Terms of Use: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

User Reviews

Eye Care 20 20 20 is praised for a simple, effective reminder to take breaks and reduce eye strain, with ad-free use and work-hour scheduling. However, many reviews criticize mandatory accounts and subscriptions, sign-up/login failures, and reliability issues with notifications. Users also report limited timer customization, DST-related timing drift, and inconsistent weekend/weekday scheduling.
Pros
  • Simple, no-frills design that does exactly what it promises.
  • Effectively supports the 20-20-20 eye-care rule, helping reduce eye strain and headaches.
  • Works across devices (phone and Apple Watch) with gentle reminders.
  • Ad-free experience and a free version that feels unobtrusive.
  • Works well for work-hour scheduling and customizable reminders during work hours.
Cons
  • Mandatory account creation and subscription after updates; loss of previous one-time purchase; login failures.
  • Reminders are unreliable: often won't trigger, may stop when switching apps, or only work when the phone is unlocked.
  • Limited timer customization: cannot set reminders for less than 20 minutes; end sounds and alert customization are lacking or not functioning.
  • DST/time-drift issues: reminders can shift by an hour during time changes.
  • Scheduling quirks: reminders may not respect weekends/work hours reliably and can go off outside intended times.

This app worked great for several years and was well worth the $1.99 to remove ads. I was very disappointed to open the app after an update to not only be required to create an account, but to also be presented with a 3 day free trial that either converts into $1.99/week ($8/month) or $60/year ….. for routine notifications. No new features, and no mention of previous paid users. I have uninstalled the app and would warn others against using the app.

Was a very helpful app initially but there was an update from 2024 - 2026 that removed the one time purchase of $1.99 for premium and now REQUIRES a subscription to use the app. They also require a email to login now.

This app works great normally. I have it set to send reminders during my work schedule M-F 7:30a-4p, which ends up with nice gentle haptic reminders on my Apple Watch. But ever since the time change this past Sunday, the reminders are starting and stopping an hour late. Even though I didn’t change anything in my schedule. I just tried moving the schedule back an hour to accommodate. But it’s a really strange error to be happening.
