User Reviews

Reviewers generally praise TrainerRoad for its structured, AI-assisted training and strong performance gains, often citing FTP improvements and overall fitness. Many view it as a solid, affordable coaching substitute with flexible control over workouts. However, recurring concerns center on reliability and user experience after updates: AI features can override manual selections and mismanage schedules; app performance can be slow or fail to load workouts; and UI changes add friction in navigation and workout selection. A subset also notes missing data integrations. Overall, the concept and results are strong, but stability and UX post-update are the main drawbacks.
Pros
  • AI-driven adaptive training leads to measurable performance gains (significant FTP improvements) and better cycling fitness.
  • Structured coaching-like training with strong ROI; many users report faster progress and consider it a great value compared to human coaching.
  • Flexible control and usability; you can ride with AI recommendations or manually select workouts, and the app remains intuitive for many users.
  • Effective for various goals, including competitive racing (one-day races) and broad appeal for beginners to advanced riders.
Cons
  • AI-driven workout selection can override manually chosen workouts, misalign schedules, and feel unpredictable.
  • Post-update reliability issues: the app becomes slow, loads fail, or is unusable, disrupting workouts.
  • UI/UX regressions and friction introduced by recent updates (modals closing unexpectedly, extra steps to access favorites, annoyances in navigation).

Love the app and what you guys do. But seems like the latest update may have caused the app to load very slowly and that’s when it even does at all on my iPhone. I think my phone may have updated iOS recently as well so maybe it’s that, but either way thought I’d pass on that somethings up with app loading and it just started a couple days ago on my iPhone. I have not done the may 7 TR update or the latest iOS update on my iPad and it loads normally.

Like the April 10 review; app completely broken on iPhone

I did this app for a year and followed the structured training plan to a tea. I followed all the workouts and ended up just getting slower. Raced the same course as I did last year but got 2 minutes slower and just always felt horrible on the bike and felt like I was getting slower all the time. Potentially could be good for people who aren’t that serious into the sport. But for athletes who aren’t seriously trying to improve this isn’t the right fit. Seems they want you to have fun rather than gain speed. Typical week would include 3 workout days a week often doing VO2 and the muscles can’t handle that over the length of a season and I eventually just started getting much slower. Sad to see it. Now I have a human coach and seem to be progressing loads faster.
