Features & Capabilities

The ASL App is created by Deaf people to help you learn conversational American Sign Language (ASL) quickly and intuitively. It organizes phrases and signs for easy, paced learning, with video speed control by dragging your finger, a built-in search index, slow motion, tips, and a favorites folder to practice what you’ve learned.

You can save signs to revisit, and share your progress on Twitter and Facebook. The app offers a bundle-based access for $9.99 with ads removed, including a mix of free and paid bundles (from the ASL alphabet to colors, numbers, and sign collections) and ongoing updates.

User Reviews

Overall, reviewers praise The ASL App for being beginner-friendly with a clear, comprehensive curriculum. Key strengths repeatedly mentioned are its straightforward video lessons, adjustable playback speed and slow-motion option, authentic Deaf signers, and a well-organized, intuitive interface with features like favorites, search, and progress tracking. The app supports self-paced learning and is useful for individuals and families learning together. A minority note occasional signs may not be shown clearly or may contain inaccuracies, and there are rare complaints about purchases or support. Still, the app is widely recommended as a solid ASL learning resource.

I have the newest version on my iPad. But when I start the app, it immediately shuts down.

Okay, i just got this app wanting to learn sign language so i could communicate with more people. But you have to be kidding me, they give you three sections to start with and then you either have to download or buy the other sections. I know you have to make money if you make an app, but be so for real. Making someone pay after not that many videos? Plus, this is not interactive in any way, you’re just watching videos.

I love the basic phrases of this app, but I want to be able to have full access to all the bundles. I can’t purchase any of the bundles. I’ve emailed already and have gotten no response. If I was able to purchase the bundles, then I would give it 5 stars.
