User Reviews

SignSchool’s iOS app is a free, beginner-friendly resource with a solid dictionary, many topics, and handy playback controls for learning on the go. Reviewers also praise mobile access and quick lookups. However, recurring complaints include a lack of structured lessons or grammar instruction, content gaps and incomplete sign coverage, reliability bugs (blank topics, sync issues), and videos that can be too fast or unclear for beginners. Overall, great for quick lookups and practice, not a full learning solution.
Pros
  • Free to use / accessible without paying
  • Strong dictionary for quick lookups
  • Lots of topics and helpful for learning (including review quizzes and games)
  • Playback controls (speed adjustment and slow motion) for learning at your own pace
Cons
  • Lacks structured lessons; no comprehensive curriculum or grammar instruction
  • Videos can be too fast or not clear for beginners
  • Content gaps: missing signs and incomplete dictionary coverage
  • Bugs and reliability issues (blank topics, sync problems, instability)
  • App features are weaker than the website (less content, limited sync with account)

I really like signschool and I think it’s a great resource for beginners, but I wish the app was as in-depth as the desktop website.

I would say it’s helped me a lot and I love it a bunch, and I definitely recommend. This is a pretty good thing to help when there’s just like a certain word you can’t remember or don’t know, but I wouldn’t say it’s great for people who don’t know grammar rules or the basics, as it doesn’t teach much of that. But there are definetly bugs. Recently I was trying to get onto one of the topics provided on the app, but when I clicked on it it was blank and just said “there are no topics available”. So I refreshed the app and tried again, but it just kept saying the same thing. The only thing that works at the moment is the dictionary, can you please fix this? Overall, not a bad app if you’re trying to learn.
